    An executor is a person who is responsible for making sure that the wishes you write in your will are carried out after your passing.

     

    They should be someone that you trust and over 18 years old.

     

    If you choose more than one executor they will work together to carry out your will.

    Mary selects two executors. She wants her mother Anne and her father Bill to be her executors. Both Mary's mother and father will be responsible for making sure that all her requests made in her will are carried out.

    An alternative executor is another person that you can choose to be your executor if the original person or people can't perform those duties. This is like a back-up plan in case your first choice is unable to carry out your will.

     

    Example:

    Mary asks her sister to be her executor and her brother to be her alternative executor. If Mary's sister passes away before Mary then Mary's brother will be her executor instead.
